McCormick Place Transportation

McCormick Place is not a single address, and that is the first thing worth knowing when you book transportation to it. The campus runs across four connected buildings — North, South, West, and Lakeside Center — along with Wintrust Arena and Arie Crown Theater, with main entrances on Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Drive, Indiana Avenue, DuSable Lake Shore Drive, and Cermak Road. Each building has its own transportation gates, and individual show organizers assign pickup and drop-off zones differently depending on the event and the day.

LimoRSVP provides scheduled private chauffeured transportation to and from the McCormick Place campus: airport arrivals from O’Hare and Midway, hotel and downtown transfers, exhibitor and sales-team movements, executive and speaker travel, and hourly service across a convention day. Every reservation is planned around the specific building and entrance your event is using, the passenger count, the luggage, and the timing — not around a generic address.

Why the Building and Entrance Matter More Than the Address

A GPS search for McCormick Place returns one pin. Your event may be nowhere near it.

A show in the West Building on Indiana Avenue and a show in Lakeside Center on DuSable Lake Shore Drive are a substantial distance apart on foot, on opposite sides of the campus, reached from different streets. The buildings are connected internally by the Grand Concourse and enclosed sky bridges, so a passenger who is dropped at the wrong building will get where they are going — but they will do it with luggage, on a schedule, through a concourse full of several thousand other attendees.

McCormick Place designates multiple transportation gates and loading zones per building, and the gate that applies to a private vehicle is not always the gate that applies to a rideshare, a taxi, or a hotel shuttle. Organizers of large shows sometimes redirect traffic further still, designating specific entrances or shuttle centers for the duration of an event.

None of that is under LimoRSVP’s control, and this page will not pretend otherwise. What LimoRSVP does is ask the right questions before your reservation is confirmed: which show, which building, which entrance or gate if your organizer has provided one, and where the passengers are coming from. When the organizer’s instructions change, the office updates the reservation and the chauffeur.

If you are coordinating transportation across several Chicago venues, hotels, and meetings rather than a single McCormick Place trip, the broader Chicago convention transportation page covers multi-venue planning.

Airport Transportation to McCormick Place

Most convention trips begin at an airport, and airport arrivals are where timing errors are least recoverable. LimoRSVP plans arrivals around flight status rather than a fixed clock time, and the office sends pickup instructions before the passenger lands so nobody is standing at a curb guessing.

Send the airline, flight number, arrival date and time, passenger count, bag count, and the McCormick Place building or hotel you are heading to. If the passenger has never been to the campus, say so — that usually changes the recommendation.

From O’Hare (ORD). O’Hare arrivals to the McCormick Place campus cross the city, and the trip is affected by terminal, traffic, weather, construction, and time of day. Travel time varies and should be planned with margin rather than quoted as a fixed number. Meet-and-greet inside the terminal can be arranged in advance, which is worth requesting for arriving executives, keynote speakers, international arrivals, and clients you are hosting. Full airport service details are on the O’Hare limo service page.

From Midway (MDW). Midway arrivals work the same way and are a common choice for regional exhibitor and sales teams. Send the flight details, passenger count, and luggage count, and the office will confirm the vehicle and the pickup arrangement. See Midway limo service for airport-specific information.

Teams arriving on different flights. This is the most common convention arrival pattern and the one that most often needs a decision rather than a booking. A team landing within a short window can usually be consolidated into one vehicle with a short wait. A team spread across a morning and an evening flight is generally better served by staged pickups or separate transfers. Send every arrival — airline, flight number, arrival time, and who is on it — and the office will propose the structure.

Private-aviation arrivals can also be quoted when the arrival location, time, and passenger details are provided.

Hotel and Downtown Transfers

The McCormick Square hotels — Hyatt Regency McCormick Place and Marriott Marquis Chicago among them — connect to the campus by enclosed sky bridge, which makes the walk short and the transportation question simple: you mostly need vehicles for arrivals, departures, dinners, and off-campus meetings rather than for the daily commute.

Guests staying downtown are in a different situation. Hotels in the Loop, West Loop, River North, the Magnificent Mile, the Gold Coast, and Streeterville all involve a real trip to the campus each morning, in traffic that is heaviest at exactly the hour a show floor opens. For those groups the daily transfer is the reservation, and it is usually worth scheduling for the full run of show rather than booking morning by morning.

South Loop hotels sit closer and often need only arrival and departure service plus evening transportation.

For any hotel, the practical detail is the pickup point. Large downtown hotels have a main entrance, a side entrance, and sometimes a separate motor court, and during a major convention week the main entrance may be congested with shuttles. Agree on the pickup location when the reservation is confirmed and give the office a passenger contact number.

Convention Days: Point-to-Point or Hourly

Most McCormick Place reservations are one of two things, and choosing correctly matters more than choosing a vehicle.

Point-to-point suits a defined trip: airport to hotel, hotel to the South Building at 7:30 a.m., campus to a restaurant at 7:00 p.m. You know both ends and the vehicle is not needed in between. It is the cleaner choice for straightforward arrival and departure days.

Hourly suits a day whose shape is uncertain. The vehicle and chauffeur stay with you through a block of time, which is the right structure when an executive has several appointments across the campus and downtown, when a leadership group is moving between the show floor, a client meeting, and dinner, when a booth team needs materials to stay in the vehicle across the day, or when the end time genuinely is not known. There is a three-hour minimum on most vehicles.

Hourly service also solves the problem of what happens between a keynote that runs long and a dinner reservation that will not move. Full details are on the hourly chauffeur service page.

If you are not sure which fits, describe the day when you request a quote and the office will tell you which structure serves it better — including when point-to-point is the cheaper and more sensible answer.

Exhibitor and Trade-Show Team Transportation

Exhibitor days start early and end unpredictably. Move-in mornings begin before the show floor opens, staff arrive from several hotels, and departure day always involves more to carry than arrival day did.

LimoRSVP coordinates passenger transportation for exhibitor and sales teams: staff transfers between hotels and the campus, morning arrivals timed to badge pickup and floor access, evening returns after the hall closes, and departure-day airport runs. Recurring transfers across the run of a show can be scheduled as a single reservation with one point of contact rather than a stack of separate bookings.

Personal luggage, samples, presentation materials, and booth items travel with the passengers where the vehicle and the volume allow. Confirm the quantity and size when you book, because it directly determines the vehicle. LimoRSVP is a chauffeured passenger transportation company and does not provide freight, drayage, crate shipping, or booth-material logistics — those move through your show’s official contractor.

Teams moving together are usually best served by a Mercedes Sprinter van, which keeps a group in one vehicle rather than splitting it across cars that arrive at different times. Executive, Speaker, and VIP Transportation

Executives and speakers attending a convention have a different problem from attendees. Their schedule is compressed, it is usually managed by someone else, and it frequently changes while they are in the air or on a stage.

LimoRSVP works routinely with executive assistants, chiefs of staff, and travel managers booking on behalf of someone else. You can reserve for any passenger without traveling yourself, and confirmations can be sent to you, to the passenger, or to both. Provide the passenger’s name and mobile number, the flight details, and who should receive trip updates.

For visiting board members, keynote speakers, sponsors, and senior leadership, a sedan or SUV with meet-and-greet on arrival is the usual configuration. When the visit includes a board meeting, a client call, a site visit, and a dinner, hourly service across the block is generally more practical than four separate reservations.

Ongoing programs for companies that move executives through Chicago regularly are covered on the corporate transportation page.

Choosing a Vehicle for McCormick Place

Vehicle choice follows three inputs: how many passengers, how much they are carrying, and whether they need to stay together.

Executive sedan — one to three passengers with up to three bags. The default for a single executive, a speaker, or a pair of colleagues arriving with carry-on luggage. Volvo S90, Cadillac CT, and Mercedes S-Class.

Luxury SUV — up to six passengers and up to five bags. The right call when the luggage outgrows the sedan before the passengers do: a client arriving with checked bags, a small team carrying materials, or a group that wants more room across a long convention day. Lincoln Navigator, Cadillac Escalade, and Chevrolet Suburban. The Lincoln Aviator suits one to four passengers when luggage is involved.

Mercedes Sprinter van — up to 13 passengers, with capacity for 13 or more bags depending on size. The practical choice for exhibitor teams, delegations, and any group that should arrive as a unit.

Passenger capacity and luggage capacity are not interchangeable. A Sprinter seated to 13 does not also have room for 13 large checked cases plus materials, and a full SUV cannot carry six checked bags. Send the honest bag count, including anything oversized, and the office will size the vehicle to it or recommend a second one. Child seats can be arranged in advance and should be included in the request, since they reduce usable passenger and cargo space.

Specifications for every vehicle are on the full fleet page. Exact make and model depend on availability on your date; the vehicle category is what is confirmed.

After the Show

Convention days rarely end at the convention center. Client dinners, sponsor receptions, private events at Wintrust Arena or Arie Crown Theater, and evenings that run past their scheduled end are all part of the week.

Transportation can continue past the show floor to a restaurant, a client office, a hotel, another Chicago venue, or the airport. For an evening with an uncertain end time, hourly service is usually the better structure — the vehicle stays available rather than being summoned into post-event traffic. For receptions and private functions with guest lists arriving from several directions, event transportation covers multi-pickup coordination. Events at nearby Soldier Field and the Museum Campus sit within the same short stretch of the lakefront.

Departure day deserves its own planning. Booth teams leave with more than they arrived with, the campus empties at once, and airport traffic is at its heaviest on the final afternoon of a large show. Build in margin and confirm the luggage volume when you book.

What to Send for a McCormick Place Quote

The more of this the office has, the faster and more accurate the response:

  • Event or show name — organizer instructions often depend on it.
  • Building — North, South, West, Lakeside Center, Wintrust Arena, or Arie Crown Theater.
  • Entrance or gate, if your organizer has assigned one.
  • Date and pickup time for each movement.
  • Pickup and drop-off addresses, including the hotel name.
  • Passenger count — the exact number, not an estimate.
  • Luggage and materials — how many bags and what size.
  • Flight details for any airport movement: airline, flight number, arrival or departure time.
  • Point-to-point or hourly, or a description of the day if you are unsure.
  • Primary contact — who books, who travels, and who should receive updates.

If you do not yet know the building or gate, request the quote anyway. The reservation can be confirmed and the pickup detail added once your organizer publishes it.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do you provide transportation to McCormick Place?

Yes. LimoRSVP provides scheduled private chauffeured transportation to and from the McCormick Place campus for conventions, trade shows, meetings, public events, and performances—including airport arrivals, hotel transfers, exhibitor and executive travel, and group movements in sedans, SUVs, and Mercedes Sprinter vans. Service is by advance reservation.

Can you pick up from O'Hare or Midway and go directly to McCormick Place?

Yes. Send the airline, flight number, arrival date and time, terminal if you know it, passenger count, and bag count, along with the building or hotel you are heading to. Arrivals are planned around flight status. Travel time from either airport varies with traffic, weather, construction, event volume, and time of day, so trips are planned with margin rather than to a fixed duration.

Where will my chauffeur pick me up at McCormick Place?

It depends on the building your event is using and the instructions your show organizer has published. McCormick Place designates multiple transportation gates and loading zones across the North, South, West, and Lakeside Center buildings, and assignments can change from event to event. Share the show name, building, and any entrance or gate your organizer has provided, and the office will confirm the meeting point with you before the trip.

Which McCormick Place building is my event in?

Check your badge, ticket, registration confirmation, organizer email, or the official McCormick Place event listing. Those are the authoritative sources, and LimoRSVP is not one. Once you know the building, the office will plan pickup and drop-off around it.

Can you handle hotel-to-McCormick Place transportation?

Yes. This includes the connected McCormick Square hotels and hotels throughout downtown Chicago, River North, the Magnificent Mile, the Loop, West Loop, and South Loop. Recurring daily transfers across the run of a show can be scheduled as one reservation. Confirm the hotel pickup point when booking, since large hotels have more than one entrance and convention weeks can congest the main entrance.

Can you provide transportation for exhibitors and booth staff?

Yes, for passengers and the luggage, samples, and presentation materials traveling with them, subject to vehicle capacity confirmed at booking. LimoRSVP does not provide freight, drayage, crate shipping, or booth-material logistics.

Is hourly service available during a convention?

Yes. Hourly service is the better structure when the vehicle should remain available—across meetings, between the show floor and a client visit, through a dinner with an uncertain end time, or on any day whose schedule is likely to move. There is a three-hour minimum on most vehicles.

What vehicle should I book for McCormick Place?

A sedan suits one to three passengers with up to three bags. An SUV accommodates up to six passengers and up to five bags and is the better choice when luggage is heavy. A Mercedes Sprinter van carries up to 13 passengers and keeps a team together. Because passenger and luggage capacity are separate limits, send both counts and the office will confirm the fit or recommend a second vehicle.

Can an assistant book McCormick Place transportation for an executive?

Yes. You can book for any passenger without traveling yourself. Provide the passenger’s name and mobile number, the flight and itinerary details, and who should receive confirmations and updates. Changes are handled through the office rather than through the chauffeur.

Can you coordinate multiple vehicles for arrivals at different times?

Yes, subject to availability. Send the full manifest—every arrival with its flight details and passengers—and the office will group them, recommend vehicle categories, and run the movements under one itinerary with a single point of contact.

Can transportation continue after the trade show?

Yes. Point-to-point or hourly service can continue to a dinner, client event, hotel, another Chicago venue, or the airport.

How far in advance should I reserve?

Reserve as soon as the show dates, hotel, flights, and passenger count are known. Chicago convention weeks create heavy demand for private vehicles, and Sprinter vans and multi-vehicle bookings are often the first to become unavailable. Availability is not guaranteed and is confirmed at the time of reservation.
